What is a stump used for?

The use of the stump consists in spreading the particles of pigments on the support, in order to obtain gradients (for shadows or volumes) or to blend the colors together. Its tip allows you to soften the lines with more precision than you can with your fingers. It is mainly used for charcoal, pastel, black chalk, sanguine, colored pencils or even graphite pencil.
